DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE

by Ewa Juszkiewicz

Damage has been done is a project in which there is a meeting between the creative work of Ewa Juszkiewicz and Bartosz Kokosiński. These artists, in developing original strategies towards painting, share a common approach to pictures and the process of creating a picture. The comparative perspective of the exhibition allows us to see in their work a mutual fascination with gestures of interference and modification. The picture – at the level of the image or physical medium – is subjected to processing and deformation.

Ewa Juszkiewicz is particularly interested in the subject of female portrait as it was seen across the centuries. She intends to analyse the social and cultural conventions relating to the image of a woman throughout the history of art. She also intends to explore and question the classical canons of beauty.

Bartosz Kokosiński is interested in treating a picture as a spatial object of a body like character or as a living organism seizing the reality. Important for him is the reference to the tradition of painting, treating the picture as an object, as a body (as a sculptural form), making he pictures invoke emotional states.
