Humanitarian Aid

by Núria Güell

I offered myself as a bride to any Cuban who wanted to immigrate to Spain, assuming the expenses for the wedding and the plane ticket. Those interested were asked to write "the world prettiest love letter"; a jury made up of three Cuban jineteras (prostitutes for foreigners) selected the winning letter, and therefore my future spouse. The chosen person committed himself to be available every time I "need" him, e.g. to join in activities related to the artwork performance, attend public events together, as well as express his gratitude in the media, among other things, during the legally required time needed to get his citizenship. Once he obtains the Spanish citizenship we will get divorced, thus closing the contract that binds us, and sell the artwork. Any profits will be equally divided.
