In the last decade the public discourse about the „Recuperación de la Memoria Historica“ has become a crucial discussions in Spain. Many artists in Spain are also dealing with questions of history, historiography and memory politics such as – how is history being constructed? Which is the dominating view on the past and what counter-memories exist? What is the relationship between personal and official memory? It is especially interesting to observe differences and similarities to the discussion around remembrance in Austria.
