Materiality / In Dialogue Web Radio

by Vessel

In her text “Theoretical Excess: Transformations of Painting”, Sylviane Agacinski posits that there has been a shift of focus in art from material structures to their theoretical backing. Spain is in the midst of an economic crisis; production of material products within the cultural sphere can often encounter resistance. vessel will investigate how cultural practitioners are dealing with this: do they substitute materiality for theoretical work or merely scale down material budgets? vessel proposes a dialogue with Spanish cultural practitioners in which they interact with the wider international population to discuss this issue which is affecting Europe as a whole. The materials created from this exchange will be utilized within the already existing network of vessel’s Radio Materiality project, which connects organizations in Poland, Portugal, and Slovenia to dialogue taking place in Bari, Italy.
