TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

by Cristina Garrido

This piece consists in the transcription with paint of a recommendation letter written by one of my employers whilst living in London. His company designs and manufactures luxury items. I worked for him on several occasions as an assistant at different Trade and Design fairs. I have previously used this letter to apply to other jobs.

His letter is a positive critique of my non-artistic labour and skills; however, it seems to describe the ideal entrepreneur artist. The time spent in both jobs – as an assistant in a fair and as an artist painting the gallery wall – was given a very different value, even if one was dependent on the other and they took place almost simultaneously.
