Renan Laru-an

DiscLab | Research and Criticism

Renan Laru-an (b. 1989, Sultan Kudarat) is a researcher and curator based in the Philippines. After completing psychology (BS) at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, he founded DiscLab | Research and Criticism, a multidisciplinary platform and 'virtual' organization for writing, theory, discursive activities, and small-scale, long-term research on Philippine contemporary art and visual and network culture. He is the editor of An Auto-corrected Journal of Printing Properties (The Office of Culture and Design, 2014) and co-author of From Bandung to Berlin (ongoing since 2014) with Brigitta Isabella.  Recently, he co-curated the First Lucban Assembly: PAMUMUHUNAN (Waiting for a capital) (organized by Project Space Pilipinas) and Herding Islands, Rats and the Anthropocene. He is an alumnus of the Gwangju Biennale International Curator Course and a member of SYNAPSE - The International Curators' Network at HKW in Berlin. In 2016, he developed Lightning Studies: CTCCCs as the Encura curator-in-residence at Hangar Barcelona, and is the upcoming Re-Directing: East curator-in-residence at Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.
