Maaike Gouwenberg

Freelance curator, director of A.P.E (art projects era)

Maaike Gouwenberg is an independent curator based in Rotterdam. She has an interest in performative practices, which led to projects that often flirt or overlap with theater and often start from (curatorial) collaborations.
After finishing the Curatorial Programme at de Appel arts centre in Amsterdam in 2007, she worked at If I Can't Dance, I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution. She initiated A.P.E. (Art Projects Era) with artist K.Cytter and curator K.Noble in 2010, where she produces performance and book projects. Since 2010 she collaborates with artist J.Lindhout on the long-term research project Gothic as a Cultural Strategy, which has led to projects in the USA, Brazil and the Netherlands. Leading up to the opening of the new Tadeusz Kantor Museum in 2013 she collaborates with curator J.Zielinska on a bi-monthly performance and lecture program on the work of Kantor in relation to contemporary art practices. She is a short film programmer at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and co-pilot of Enough Room for Space in Brussels. She is a committee member at The Mondriaan Fund, and a board member of Enough Room for Space, Theater group Ponies, and HTV de IJsberg.
