Freelance curator, chairman and co-curator of F.A.I.T. (Foundation Artists Innovation Theory) in Krakow

Gaweł Kownacki born in 1977 in Krakow (Poland). Artist, freelanced curator, producer and organizor of cultural events. Studied graphics and photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and photography at the University in Essen. Graduated from The Andrzej Wajda Masters Course of Film Directing. Co-founder and Chairman of Foundation Artists – Innovation – Theory (F.A.I.T.) that was established in 2005 to encourage new approaches to the visual arts, promoting the idea of innovation in the artistic practice as well as theoretical interpretation. Realize his exhibitions in the style of subjective curating doing shows as „The worst photos you have ever taken“ (F.A.I.T. 2006), „East’s Desires“ (Outpost Gallery, Norwich, 2006), Demi Volte – Jakub Julian Ziółkowski (F.A.I.T. 2007), Collapse – Stefan Burger, (F.A.I.T. 2008), „Subjective history of disco music“ – performance in privat apartment, (Krakow, 2010) or creating subversive intervensions such as „Galeriests“ (Art Review 2009-2010). Interested in coleraltions between visual arts and film. Working on a series of creational documentary movies presenting the icons of contemporary art in Poland in order to discover new strategies.
