Dois por Dois: international residency programm

Project collaboration together with Malavoadora, in Porto (Portugal)

Dois por Dois is an international residency program run by Malavoadora, a non-profit organisation based in Porto. It is a pilot program that aims to host two artists or curators - one from the performing arts field and another from a different artistic area - at the same time.

The selection is carried out annually out of a list of candidates proposed by Malavoadora, Forest Fringe (UK) the Festival Alkantara (PT) and Hablar en Arte / Curators' Network (ES).

This selection procedure aims to avoid the pitfalls among the "application" model, such as the difficulties in organizing a fair registration process for artists working in different corners of the world, with different levels of access to information, etc. But above all, it is an opportunity for the organisers to engage into enriched discussions and decisions along with similar profile organisations. The residency programme's format is also structured as a free working space, allowing creators and researchers to dig into their practice as well as strengthening relations with other residents and organisations. Therefore, there is no curatorial annual topic and, any obligation of a final presentation of results at the end of the residency.

Recent, and first resident of the programme was Greg Wohead (August - October 2016) who developped several projects, among them Call it a Day , a theater performance made from loop recreations of a conversation with an Amish couple who decided abdicating modern technology in the name of religion, and Story # 2, in collaboration with Rachel Mars, an investigation into the possibilities of a radical narrative masked by political events in 2016.

Future resedents in 2017 will be Jorge Dutor and Guillem Mont de Palol (ES) and Playdramaturgia (ES) in 2019.
